The stamps illustrate two emblematic historical monuments of the two countries, namely the "Kasbah of Oudayas" in Rabat and the "Alcázar de Cólon" located in Santo Domingo, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccans Abroad said in a statement on Thursday.
This joint philatelic issue, which reflects the excellence of relations uniting the two countries, was announced during a virtual ceremony in the presence of the respective General Directors of Barid Al-Maghrib, Amin Benjelloun Touimi and the Dominican Postal Institute, Adán Peguero as well as of Morocco's Ambassador to the Dominican Republic, Zakaria El Goumiri, according to the same source.
On this occasion, El Goumiri and Peguero proceeded to the signing and exchange of stamps issued by the two postal institutions, which consist of 500 copies each.
According to El Goumiri, "this joint philatelic issue celebrates the alliance, the collaboration and the determination of the two countries to build a close and lasting partnership."
He also considered that this initiative is a "memorable testimony of the importance attributed by the Kingdom of Morocco to the relations with the Dominican Republic" and hopes it will "promote consolidation between the two peoples through a symbolic invitation to discover the historical and cultural heritage of the two countries,” the ministry concluded.
