Speaking during the virtual General Debate of the 75th United Nations General Assembly, El Otmani stressed that "the security of Libya, a brotherly country with which we share a common history and destiny, is an integral part of the security of the Kingdom of Morocco."
"Nine years following the onset of the crisis in Libya, the security and humanitarian situation continues to deteriorate as a result of foreign interference, including military intervention," he deplored in a prerecorded speech broadcast before the representatives of the UN Member States in New York.
"The only solution is a political one decided by Libyans themselves with the support of the international community and without foreign interference as confirmed at the Skhirat meeting, supported by the international community" the official said.
El Otmani underlined that Morocco remains "committed to providing a neutral forum for dialogue between the Libyan parties", recalling that the Kingdom hosted, in September in Bouznika, meetings between delegations of the High Council of State and the Tobruk Parliament which culminated in a comprehensive agreement on transparent and objective mechanisms to fill key positions.
On Palestine, he declared that failure to settle the Palestinian question and to revive the Middle East peace process is a "source of great concern for the Kingdom of Morocco" as "there can be no just or lasting peace unless the Palestinian people can exercise their legitimate right to establish an independent and viable Palestinian state with Al Quds Asharif as its capital."
The Kingdom "categorically rejects all unilateral measures taken by the Israeli authorities in the occupied Palestinian territories whether in the West bank or in Al Quds Asharif," El Otmani underscored, stressing that those measures only fuel tensions and instability in the region.
As Chair of the Al Quds committee, an offshoot of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, HM King Mohammed VI has always called for preserving the holy city of Al Quds as common heritage of humanity and a symbol for mutual respect, dialogue and peaceful coexistence among the followers of the three monotheistic religions as confirmed in the Al Quds Call that HM and his holiness the Pope signed in Rabat on March 30th, 2019, he added.
El Otmani also expressed the Kingdom’s permanent solidarity with Lebanon in the aftermath of the explosion in the port of Beirut and its painful material and human repercussions.
As part of its effective solidarity and upon the high instructions of HM King Mohammed VI, the Kingdom has provided medical and humanitarian assistance to the Lebanese people in the hope of alleviating their suffering, he recalled.
