"The least integrated region of the Continent, North Africa crystallizes the aborted ambitions of a population with common aspirations, linked destinies and shared history," lamented Amrani at the 7th and penultimate video presentation launched by the Moroccan embassy in Pretoria as part of its communication campaign on the regional dispute over the Sahara.
The diplomat referred, in this new video, to the sluggishness of a North African integration that is moving backwards, where contexts, stakes and challenges require a much more pronounced dynamic in the direction of cohesion and a renewed, strengthened and deepened regional construction.
"It is now more necessary than ever to overcome existing blockages in order to see the future through the prism of an ever more global coherence, an ever more structured unity and an ever more concerted approach," Amrani said, noting that the economic, political and social costs of non-Maghreb are staggering.
He recalled in this regard that the delay in the Maghreb integration process costs each country of the region at least 2.8% of its annual growth rate.
"It is clear that in the current context of uncertainty and instability, the achievement of the Maghreb Union is not a simple option but an absolute necessity," he stressed.
Today, the Maghreb vision, leadership and commitment will have echoes only if they are rooted in the depths of each of the countries in the region with the same strength, the same voluntarism and the same determination that the Kingdom of Morocco, under the leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, strives to demonstrate in any place and in any circumstance, said Amrani.
