This session, which brings together some thirty member States, is an opportunity to exchange experiences in the management of the crisis related to the pandemic, to coordinate the actions of governments and to clarify future directions for the revival of international tourism.

During the opening ceremony that was followed by the Executive Council sessions, Georgian Prime minister Giorgi Gakharia said that tourism is one of the sectors most affected today by the spread of coronavirus in the world, stressing that one of the most important events of the post-crisis period will be the trend to restore tourism.

Afterwards, UNWTO Secretary-General Zurab Pololikashvili presented the current trends and prospects for international tourism, in light of the Covid-19 pandemic, as well as reports on the financial situation and human resources of the organization, in addition to the reports of the Committee on Tourism and Competitiveness, the Committee on Tourism and Sustainability and the Committee on Statistics.

On the sidelines of the Council's proceedings, Fettah held bilateral meetings respectively with secretary of state for Tourism of Portugal, Rita Marques, minister of Tourism of Saudi Arabia, Ahmed Bin Aqil, and minister of Tourism and Antiquities of Egypt, Khaled El-Enani, during which the bilateral cooperation relations in the field of tourism and the prospects for their development were highlighted.

The Moroccan minister also held talks with Pololikashvili on the progress of preparations for the 24th Session of the UNWTO General Assembly to be held in Marrakech in 2021.
