In a presentation of the bimonthly update on the epidemiological situation related to Covid-19, the head of the Division of Communicable Diseases at the Directorate of Epidemiology and Disease Control in the ministry of Health, Abdelkrim Meziane Bellefqui indicated that the reproduction rate of the virus is currently stable at 1.11 and that the ambition is to bring it down to -1.
In this regard, Meziane Bellefqui highlighted the remarkable increase in the number of cases in the Casablanca-Settat region, particularly in the city of Casablanca as well as the publication of a ministerial circular on home treatment for asymptomatic patients and the acceleration and reduction of the duration of the three stages, namely testing, diagnosis and care.
He also shed light on the evolution of the epidemiological situation during the last two weeks, emphasizing that the number of cases of contamination in the Kingdom, from 7 to 13 September, reached 14,292, against 10,995 from 31 August to 6 September, an increase of 30%. The number of recovered people increased by 37% (from 8,919 to 12,254), while the number of deaths fell by 13% (217 against 250) during the same period, he said.
In addition, He recalled that 88,203 is the number of contaminations in the Kingdom since the first case reported on March 2, against 68,970 fully recovered people, representing a cure rate of 78.2%, noting that the number of deaths amounts to 1,614, a case-fatality rate of 1.8% and the incidence rate stands at 243/100,000 inhabitants. He noted that the weekly incidence rate began to increase rapidly, starting in September.
Regarding the distribution of the weekly incidence rate for each 100,000 inhabitants according to regions, from 7 to 13 September, Meziane Bellefqui noted that the regions concerned by an incidence rate of 20/100,000 inhabitants are the Eastern region, Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima, Fez-Meknes, Guelmim-Oued Noun and Laayoune-Sakia El Hamra.
It was recorded from 20 to 50/100,000 inhabitants in the regions of Rabat-Sale-Kenitra, Beni Mellal-Khenifra, Marrakech-Safi and Souss-Massa and more than 50/100,000 inhabitants in the regions of Casablanca-Settat, Daraa-Tafilalet and Dakhla-Oued Eddahab, he said, adding that the number of fatalities after mid-August reached more than 200 cases per week.
