Every year, August 26 marks a date rooted in the memory of Moroccans who also celebrate the tireless fight led by HRH Princess Lalla Meryem for the preservation of women's rights and the promotion of the physical, moral and emotional well-being of children, particularly those in difficult situation.
From an early age, Her Royal Highness has held several positions in the social field, notably that of President of Social Welfare of the Royal Armed Forces (FAR), a position to which HRH Princess Lalla Meryem was appointed in 1981 by late King Hassan II.
HRH Princess Lalla Meryem, who is also President of the National Union of Moroccan Women (UNFM), chaired on March 3rd in Marrakech the celebration ceremony of the International Women's Day.
On this occasion, an agreement relating to the Marrakesh Declaration was signed with the aim of setting up a Council to monitor the implementation of the said Declaration.
On December 7, 2019, HRH Princess Lalla Meryem chaired, at the Mohammed V national Theatre in Rabat, the inauguration ceremony of the international charity bazaar of the diplomatic Circle.
Speaking on this occasion, chairwoman of the diplomatic Circle, spouse of Sweden's ambassador in Rabat, Danielle Kebbon, said the bazaar is an opportunity to initiate a cultural exchange as well as recognition of the hospitality displayed by the Kingdom.
The 30th edition of the Charity Bazaar is also an opportunity to express friendship and provide help for women and children, she added, while reviewing the achievements of the previous year, marked by support provided to 14 associations working in the field of women and children with the aim of reducing disparities.
On December 6th, 2019, HRH Princess Lalla Meryem chaired, at the Lalla Soukaina mosque in Rabat, a religious evening in commemoration of the 21st anniversary of the passing of late King Hassan II.
Her Royal Highness, who is also the Chairwoman of the National Observatory of the Child's Rights (ONDE), chaired in Marrakech the closing ceremony of the 16th National Congress of the Rights of the Child, which coincides with the celebration of the 30th anniversary of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child.
The ceremony was marked by the signing of a commitment to the National Pact for Children by 2030.
During this ceremony, the United Nations Champion Generation Unlimited Prize was awarded to Her Royal Highness by the United Nations.
This UN prize was then handed to HRH Princess Lalla Meryem by Geert Cappelaere, Senior Advisor at the Office of the UNICEF Executive Director.
On November 7, HRH Princess Lalla Meryem chaired a dinner offered by HM King Mohammed VI in honor of Ivanka Trump, advisor of US president Donald Trump.
Ivanka's visit was aimed at the promotion of the Women's Global Development and Prosperity (W-GDP) initiative, to ease the economic emancipation of 50 million women by 2025.
