"Any initiative to promote the implementation of the political agreement or to develop it, without going against its mechanisms of action, will be welcome and could be examined in detail", underlined Al Mechri in a statement to the press following his talks with the speaker of the house of Advisors Hakim Benchamach.
"We are examining with the Moroccan brothers the implementation of the political agreement and its modification to bring it in line with the current stage, through the adopted mechanisms", said the Libyan official.
In addition, he said that the Libyan High Council of State is in permanent contact with the house of advisors, and an integrated plan has been drawn up with a view to establishing cooperation between the two institutions so as to develop legislative action and share experiences.
He noted that his talks with Benchamach focused on ways to promote cooperation between the two countries and on the internal situation in Libya.
Responding to a question on the possibility of a meeting with the Speaker of the Libyan House of Representatives Aguila Saleh, who is also visiting Morocco, Al Mechri said that there is no arrangement or prior coordination in this regard. He added that he "is not against a meeting with the Libyans and all the bodies arising from the political agreement, including members of the House of Representatives."
For his part, Benchamach stressed that the house of advisors aspires, through this visit, to build a solid partnership between the two institutions.
These talks were, according to him, "an opportunity to reiterate the need to continue bilateral action and the commitment of all bodies and institutions in Morocco in favor of unity and stability in Libya". "We are confident in the capacity of our Libyan brothers to overcome the obstacles during the transitional phase which, we hope, will not last very long, in order to continue the establishment of a strong and stable civil state, fully assuming its role in North Africa," he said.
This meeting also underscored the need to initiate common actions to renew the political agreement of Skhirat, said the parliamentary officials, adding that "here in Morocco, we are at the disposal of the Libyan brothers to provide everything that would help achieve these lofty objectives".
