On a courtesy visit to the Moroccan News Agency (MAP), which he described as "a fundamental cog in the wheel of all communication in Morocco", Pereira said that the agreement on legal migration between the two countries was a project which was well under way and which "I hope can be concluded soon".
"We are in the process of examining draft texts," he said, adding that "this agreement is largely based on the Spanish model".
Pereira also indicated that his objective is "naturally" to further strengthen the "excellent" relations that already exist between the two countries, under the impetus of HM King Mohammed VI and president of Portugal, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, as well as the two governments.
"We have a huge task ahead of us, our relations are already very good, excellent and very rich," he said, stressing that as neighboring countries, with a very long common past, "we want to do more in the years to come".
Regarding the economic sector, Pereira stressed that Morocco and Portugal have an annual trade of more than €1 billion, noting that "when our minister (of Foreign Affairs) came to visit Morocco at the end of January, he agreed with His Excellency Nasser Bourita to try to double this figure in the coming years".
Pereira also pointed out that his country and Morocco have a very important project in the field of energy, namely the strategic project for the creation of an electricity interconnection, which will certainly "bring us closer together".
"We are very committed to the energy transition" and there are many opportunities in the field of renewable energy to achieve it, he said.
Referring to the field of security, the Portuguese ambassador highlighted the cooperation between the two countries, which he considers "very important".
"This is an area of discreet cooperation, which we value and which works very well," he said.
