"Due to the recent evolution of the epidemiological situation in certain cities and regions, and in the context of the continued screening of new inmates and the quarantine restrictions adopted to ensure their safety, cases of contamination with the new coronavirus were registered in the new prisoners of the Tangier1 local prison and the local prison of Safi, and this after the announcement, last June 12, that no prison was contaminated.
In anticipation of any development and in order to guarantee the security of penitentiaries and protect inmates from the spread of the coronavirus, under the program set up by the DGAPR, it was decided to re-apply quarantine restrictions on the staff of the Tangier 1 local prison, the local prison of Safi and the central prison Moul El Bergui, said the delegation.
It was also decided to coordinate with the competent authorities to provide screening tests for the employees of the establishments concerned before resuming work as well as for the new prisoners upon their arrival to the establishment, said the press release.
It was also decided to coordinate with the competent legal authorities to continue banning the transfer of detainees to the courts, to continue holding remote hearings, to postpone family visits until further notice and to strengthen the previously adopted preventive measures, concluded the DGAPR.
