In a presentation before the Committee of Education, Culture and Communication at the House of Representatives, the minister recalled the meeting held with press professionals to discuss issues affecting the sector of print media.
The minister stressed that intense work has been carried out with the ministry of Economy, Finance and Administration Reform on an emergency plan to support the print media based on four measures with regard to the current economic situation.
The first measure relates to the allocation of an amount of MAD 75 million for the payment of three salaries to companies in July, August and September, and the second concerns the mobilization of MAD 75 million for the payment of suppliers to press companies in order to take over the economic value of the sector and mitigate costs.
As for the third measure, it aims at devoting 15 million dirhams to printing houses that print more than 500,000 copies, in order to enable these press companies to pay the salaries of the handlers, while the fourth measure consists in providing direct support of 15 million dirhams to Sapress which is facing difficulties related to the economic situation, in addition to a state recapitalization to the tune of 10 million dirhams.
An aid of 15 million dirhams will be granted to private radio stations which, according to the minister, have made "great efforts" to raise awareness among citizens during the health crisis.
