In a statement on the occasion of World Refugee Day, celebrated under the theme "Everyone can make a difference, every action counts," the Council also advocated strengthening respect for the principle of non-refoulement of asylum-seekers and reducing the authorities' margin of appreciation with regard to repatriation decisions in order to guarantee their rights as refugees.
In addition, the institution renewed its recommendations on migration and asylum included in its report on the situation of human rights in Morocco for the year 2019, which call in particular for the consolidation of guarantees to promote their social and economic rights.
"The protection of refugees is a priority in the action strategy of the CNDH within the framework of the concept of the effectiveness of rights," noted CNDH president Amina Bouayach.
Among the initiatives undertaken in partnership with the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), the CNDH highlighted advocacy and the strengthening of the protection and promotion of the rights of refugees, in particular the right to education, the right to civil registration, the right of access to health services, the right to work and the protection of the rights of migrant workers, as well as the right to housing and accommodation.
