"Morocco is determined to continue the search for triangular cooperation for the peaceful use of nuclear science and technology, through its cooperation with African countries, in accordance with Morocco's foreign policy devoted to strengthening south-south and triangular cooperation," the diplomat said at a virtual meeting of the IAEA board of governors.
Farhane affirmed on this occasion that the Kingdom will spare no effort to promote national capacity building, develop training and learning facilities, provide support on nuclear safety and security for the benefit of African countries at their request.
In this regard, Morocco welcomes the designation by the IAEA of the first regional capacity-building Center for Africa in Morocco, in the field of preparedness and response to nuclear and radiological emergencies, the diplomat noted.
It is in this sense that the Moroccan Agency for Nuclear and Radiological Safety and Security (AMSSNuR), which also chairs the International Network for Education and Training in Nuclear and Radiological Emergency Preparedness and Response (iNET-EPR), organized several online meetings during the COVID-19 confinement to share experience in building the capacity of EPR Centers, update network plans and launch the iNET-EPR platform, the ambassador noted.
Morocco, as chair of the Forum of Nuclear Regulatory Bodies in Africa (FRNBA), reaffirms on this occasion, its focus on African collaboration as a key strategic position within the IAEA and will continue to seek to conclude bilateral agreements with African countries in this direction, Farhane said.
Recalling Morocco's contribution to international networks, cooperation agreements and regional programming, particularly in Africa, the diplomat stressed that the Kingdom, as chair of the African Network for Education in Nuclear Science and Technology (AFRA-NEST) , welcomes the designation of five of its centers as regional hubs for the implementation of the network's program.
