The new figures bring to 8,610 the number of contaminations in the Kingdom since the beginning of the epidemic, i.e. a rate of 23.7/100,000 inhabitants and to 7,618 the number of fully recovered people, i.e. a recovery rate of 88.5%, said Dr Mouad Mrabet, coordinator of the National Center for Emergency Public Health Operations at the ministry, in a statement broadcasted by MAP on its TV channel M24 and on RIM RADIO.
He further indicated that one new death has been reported in Tangier in the last 24 hours, bringing the number of fatalities to 212, i.e. a fatality rate of 2.5 per cent.
The new cases, he said, were recorded in five regions: Marrakech-Safi with 32 cases in Marrakech (contact persons), Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima (26 in Tangier, Larache and Fahs-Anjra), Fez-Meknes (9 in Fez), Casablanca-Settat (5 cases in Casablanca), and Rabat-Salé-Kénitra with one case (contact person in Kénitra).
In this regard, 63 new contaminations out of 73 confirmed cases were detected under the case-contact follow-up system, representing 86% of new cases, he said, noting that the number of contact persons reached 49,636, of whom 5,990 are still under medical supervision.
On the other hand, an additional 16,478 cases were excluded after negative laboratory test results, that is a total of 380,532 cases excluded since the outbreak of the virus, according to data provided by Dr. Mrabet.
Regarding active cases, he stressed that 780 patients are currently under treatment in the various hospitals of the Kingdom, i.e. 2.1 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, explaining that these cases are mainly concentrated in the regions of Casablanca-Settat, Marrakech-Safi, Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima, Rabat-Salé-Kénitra and Guelmim-Oued Noun. The regions of Laâyoune-Sakia El Hamra and Souss-Massa have only one active case each.
Ten cases are placed in resuscitation or intensive care, including seven in Casablanca (2 under artificial respiration) and three in Tangier where two cases are under artificial respiration, he concluded.
