The recent creation in exile of the "Sahrawi Movement for Peace" (MSP) comes in response to the discredit and the lack of legitimacy from which the separatists of the polisario suffer, wrote "El Siete" in an article on the inception of this new organization.
The promoters of the MSP justified their initiative by the fact that the polisario "is exhausted and does not have neither the capacity to renew itself nor the will to open itself to ideas or initiatives", even though all initiatives and efforts made in this direction ended up facing the intransigence and arrogance of an old leadership accustomed to authoritarianism and lack of democracy, noted the Chilean website.
According to the initiators of this movement, "the persistent stagnation and the lack of prospects for the resolution of the problem" of the Sahara, combined with "the endless exile, the humanitarian and social crisis and the deterioration of living conditions in addition to the violations of human rights whose perpetrators continue to enjoy absolute impunity to this day (...) led to discrediting and delegitimizing the polisario", said the portal.
In addition, the old-fashioned guard's grip on power and its fierce opposition to any idea of change or internal renewal were clear as evidenced by the results of the last congress by the separatists, said "El Siete", citing the founding manifesto of the Sahrawi Movement for Peace.
Similarly, "the new political project was born with the calling of representing the leanings and opinions of important and diverse sectors of the Sahrawi population who do not identify with the political and ideological positions and projects of the Polisario front", added the Chilean media outlet quoting the said manifesto.
The birth of this movement is "an unprecedented experience that breaks with the old totalitarian and radical model of the polisario," noted the website.
The movement wants to be a political option which banks on the peaceful way and aspires to occupy the place which it deserves as a new political reference on the scene", saying that it is driven by a "firm and sincere will to use positive influences and to contribute, by alternative approaches, to the search for a viable and durable solution of compromise to the Sahara issue.
For the Sahrawi Movement for Peace, "the settlement of the conflict (of the Sahara) which has jeopardized peace, integration and the development of the peoples of the Arab Maghreb for decades, is a historic necessity as it will open a phase of prosperity for the benefit of the peoples of the region, concluded the Chilean website.
