The judicial police had followed a truck with fake number plates, during its passage in several Moroccan cities towards the port of Jorf Lasfar, before that the driver of the vehicle and his companions got rid of some bundles of drug by throwing them on the highway and started hurling stones at the police, said the National Police (DGSN) in a statement, adding that the suspects fled when they arrived at the toll stattion of Tit Mellil, by the bypass of Casablanca's highway, causing damage to the toll station and leaving behind the truck, which contained 220 bundles weighing 7,228 tonnes of Chira.
The search operations carried out in coordination with the Royal Gendarmerie enabled to arrest two people who were in the vehicle, after discovering on board a bundle of drugs which had been thrown by the members of the criminal network, added the DGSN, noting that a third person was arrested in a vehicle transporting large quantities of stones after having deliberately tried to escape by using the prohibited highway lane.
The three suspects were remanded in police custody to conduct the investigation on their alleged links with the members of a criminal network implicated in an attempt to smuggle this large cargo of drug, while investigations are still under way to identify the main suspects and the accomplices of these criminal acts, the statement concluded.
