Since March, the Kingdom has embarked in manufacturing 100% Moroccan masks for the public, sold for 0.7 euros each, an initiative that made the pride of Moroccans and for which politicians around the world voiced esteem, underlined the newspaper in its Africa section.
Under the Ministry of Industry and thanks to grants from the special emergency fund financed by the State and by donations, nineteen local textile plants were turned into factories producing non-woven material masks. "A breakthrough which enabled Morocco (...) to make the wearing of masks mandatory since April 7," added Le Monde.
The situation today is "under control", said the newspaper quoting Minister of Industry Moulay Hafid Elalamy.
With 7 million masks produced daily, Morocco is self-sufficient and has even a surplus. Thirty-four companies have started manufacturing non-subsidized washable cloth masks, part of which is intended for export, noted the French newspaper.
Quoting the Minister of Industry, Le Monde pointed out that five of these companies are already exporting half of their production to Europe, while others will be authorized to do so in few weeks, given the number of requests from foreign countries and since the national demand is met.
