The report shows a general decrease in the main indicators of the accidentology, said Friday a statement by the ministry.
March 2020 data in comparison with the provisional data for the same month last year, reveal that injury accidents reached 5,990, i.e a decrease of 31.28% and fatal accidents showed a drop of 40.23% (153).
The number of seriously injured persons was 392, i.e a decrease of 44.24%, while slightly injured people showed a drop of 31.20% (7,948 wounded), according to the same source.
The first victims of traffic accidents are vulnerable road users such as pedestrians and users of two and three-wheelers, who remain the most affected category, accounting for about 61% of fatalities, followed by users of passenger cars (30% of all deaths).
Regarding the number of accidents by region, the twelve regions recorded decreases in the number of accidents in March 2020 compared to the same month of last year, varying between -14.29% in the region of LaĆ¢youne-Sakia ElHamra and -52.50% in the region of Dakhla-Oued Eddahab.
This drastic drop in road safety indicators in March 2020 is due to the implementation of health containment measures in Morocco related to Covid-19, which are still ongoing, as of 20 March 2020, with a reduction of people's mobility to the strict minimum, which has led to a sharp decrease in road risks.
