The woman in her ninth month of pregnancy was transferred from Al Kortobi Hospital, where she was being treated for coronavirus, to the maternity ward dedicated to pregnant women infected with Covid-19 at Mohammed VI Hospital, where a team of doctors and nurses conducted medical examinations before performing a caesarean section, taking all the necessary preventive measures.
The head of the gynaecology and obstetrics department at the University Hospital of Tangier, Professor Saad Benkirane, said that this is the first case of delivery of a woman (21 years) contaminated by Covid-19 at the hospital, adding that the delivery by caesarean section took place in good conditions with the respect of the necessary measures to protect the health of the mother, the newborn and the medical staff mobilized.
He pointed out that currently in Tangier four pregnant women have been tested positive for the virus, saying that medical staff are closely monitoring these patients whose condition remains stable.
The health authorities have anticipated this kind of special cases, by preparing a specific circuit reserved for pregnant women with coronavirus to ensure their safety and provide them with the necessary care in the best conditions, he said.
