"As soon as the first cases appeared, Morocco took a series of preventive and proactive measures to contain the spread of the coronavirus, thanks to the far-sighted vision of HM King Mohammed VI," wrote the magazine in an article entitled "How Morocco is fighting the unprecedented global crisis of Covid 19".
The plan adopted by Morocco to fight the pandemic is multidimensional and includes diverse and far-reaching measures to stem the spread of the coronavirus and counter its socio-economic impact, the publication said in its new issue published on Tuesday, noting that as soon as the first cases appeared, it was decided to close maritime borders, suspend all flights to and from Morocco until further notice, and declare a state of health emergency since 20 March.
In order to contain the epidemic, Morocco has closed all schools and universities since 16 March and launched a distance learning platform that students can access through free internet provided by telecom operators, the magazine noted.
The publication added that all places of worship and all usual gathering places have been closed, while supermarkets and banks continue to provide only the necessary services, stressing that public, private and military hospitals, which have increased the capacity of their intensive care units from 1,600 to 3,000 beds, continue to receive patients in the best possible conditions, thanks to the exemplary mobilization of civil and military medical personnel.
Since 23 March, Moroccan factories have begun producing three million medical masks a day and expect to reach five million next week, and the Kingdom will soon be able to export the surplus of its production, the paper added, noting that the wearing of masks has become compulsory since 7 April for all persons authorized to leave their homes, given the fact that masks produced by local manufacturers are available at low prices.
Meanwhile, the magazine added, Morocco has started manufacturing its own respirators, with a first batch of 500 units expected to be available next week to help meet the growing demand related to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The magazine highlighted the strong mobilization to support the populations most affected by the economic slowdown, in particular through a special fund launched by HM King Mohammed VI.
