The number of people declared cured rose, until Sunday at 6:00 p.m., to 177 cases (31 additional recoveries), while that of deaths reached 118, after reporting seven new deaths in the last 24 hours, said director of epidemiology and fight against diseases at the Ministry of Health Mohamed El Youbi, in a statement broadcast by MAP on its television channel M24 and RIM RADIO.
540 additional suspected cases have been dismissed following negative laboratory tests in the past 24 hours, said El Youbi.
Regarding the geographic distribution, the official underlined that the Casablanca-Settat region still reports the highest number of cases, with almost 29% of the total, followed in particular by Marrakech-Safi (almost 19%), Rabat-Salé Kenitra (14.3%) and Fez-Meknès (almost 13%).
The regions of Dakhla-Oued Eddahab and Guelmim-Oued Noun remain, for their part, the least affected, with respectively 2 and 1 case, he said, adding that the distribution by sex and age did not change compared to the previous data.
The official also noted that the epidemic is now spreading through small hotbeds of contamination, particularly within families, saying that among 9,984 contact persons who have been tracked since the start of the epidemic, 689 have tested positive, knowing that 4,491 contact persons are still under medical supervision.
He explained that the elderly and patients in an advanced stage or in a critical condition are not necessarily doomed, giving the example of a 96-year-old lady and cases in intensive care who eventually recovered.
