Four new deaths from coronavirus complications were reported, bringing the total number of fatalities to 97, while twelve new recoveries were registered in the same period, which rises to 109 the total number of recovered covid-19 patients, Director of epidemiology at the ministry of Health, Mohamed El Youbi, pointed out in a statement broadcast by MAP on its M24 channel and RIM radio.
Regarding the geographical spread of the virus, Casablanca-Settat is the worst-hit region with more than 29% of the total number of cases, ahead of Marrakech-Safi (19%), Rabat-Salé-Kenitra (15%) and Fez-Meknes (12%), he added.
According to El Youbi, local infection cases represent 90% against 10% for foreign cases.
He said that 15% of covid-19 patients did not show symptoms, 70% were in mild condition and 15% were in serious or critical condition when they were taken into hospitals, noting that several cases were reported among people who had contacts with confirmed cases and who were under medical surveillance.
The official said, in this regard, that 8,664 people who had contacts with confirmed cases were under medical surveillance since the start of the coronavirus outbreak.
The follow up of these people enabled to report 504 confirmed cases, he pointed out.
The average age of confirmed cases is still ranging between 47 and 48, he said.
As regards the incubation period, El Youbi said it has reached 6 days in the country though it varies from one person to another, as it can go from one day up to 15 days.
