"The situation we are experiencing should in no case imply an outright halt to our activities", particularly as all the various components of the House are determined to perform their duties in this particular situation, the House of Representatives added in the release issued following a meeting held Monday between Speaker Habib El Malki and the leaders of parliamentary groups.
The Lower House wishes to fulfill its functions in terms of accompaniment, questioning, control, proposing solutions and alternatives, in the same way as the various other stakeholders that are school, institutions dedicated to production and trade in order to meet the needs of population, it pointed out.
In this regard, it was agreed on presence formalities at the opening session of the spring session, which will take place on April 10 in accordance with article 65 of the Constitution, as well as during the forthcoming sessions.
The participants in the meeting also agreed to hold two plenary sessions dedicated to general policy questions which will be answered by the Head of Government.
The first one, to be held on April 13, will discuss "health, economic and social repercussions of coronavirus and the measures taken to deal with the pandemic".
It was also decided to schedule weekly sessions for the sectors of health, interior, agriculture, fisheries, rural development, economy, finance and administration reform, industry, commerce, digital and green economy, national education, vocational training, higher education, scientific research and employment.
All the components of the Chamber stressed during this meeting the particular importance of the works of the legislative institution in these exceptional circumstances, particularly in terms of communication with public opinion.
They also welcomed the solidarity spirit displayed to face the repercussions of the pandemic, recalling that "the Moroccans have overcome many hardships throughout history thanks to the values of solidarity and mutual aid that drive them."
The MPs also praised the efforts and initiatives of HM King Mohammed VI in the health, economy and social areas.
They also paid tribute to the government, the various institutions and to all components of the society for their efforts to stop the spread of the pandemic, while expressing deep gratitude to health workers, the Royal Armed Forces, the Territorial Administration, the National Security, the Royal Gendarmerie, the Civil Protection and the Auxiliary Forces, the teaching staff, media, civil society and the private sector.
