In order to enlighten public opinion and dispel any doubt that could be caused by the erroneous data put forward by the woman in question, the Wilaya indicated in a clarification that the baby, coming from the provincial hospital Eddarrak of Berkane, was admitted on Thursday March 26, 2020, at the Mohammed VI university hospital in Oujda following complications of her health condition.
The nursing staff observed symptoms in the baby suspected of being related to Covid-19, which necessitated, as a precautionary measure, the necessary laboratory tests before admitting her to resuscitation after her condition deteriorated, the same source added, noting that the newborn died the next day.
After the death of the infant, and even without having received the results of the tests carried out, the medical services decided, with the agreement of the mother who was in hospital, to bury her in the Assalam cemetery in Oujda, in accordance with the standards for the burial of Covid-19 victims in force at the national and international levels, stressed the same source, noting that, given the woman's conditions and the state of health emergency, the social services of the hospital transported her back to her home in Berkane, while urging the woman to confine herself to preserve her safety and that of her children and neighbours.
With regard to the false statements made by the mother, in which she invoked unfounded facts that she attributed to persons and bodies, the Wilaya stated that, once she had returned home, a joint commission made up of local and health authorities and elements of civil protection went to her family's home in order to subject the family members to coronavirus testing procedures, adding that the woman in question had refused to receive the members of that commission and to undergo the tests.
The following day, the woman knowingly violated the containment measures and the state of health emergency in force by going to the headquarters of the court of first instance in Berkane, the same source added, stating that, in view of this situation and as a precautionary measure to prevent the spread of Covid-19, the competent authorities transferred the woman in question to the Eddarrak provincial hospital in Berkane in order to carry out a laboratory analysis to check for possible infection with Covid-19.
At the same time, another team went to the family home, at the insistence of the public authorities, to transfer the children of the woman concerned and her husband to the hospital in order to undergo the tests, the source stressed.
They were then brought back home, while informing them of the indications necessary to comply with the containment, taking into account the health safety of the neighbours, while awaiting the results of the analyses.
"Concerned about clarifying all the circumstances of this case, to enlighten public opinion and to remove all suspicions that could be caused by the statements made in this regard, the Wilaya of the Eastern region affirms its commitment to the application of the law with regard to any person suspected of false allegations, malicious accusations and untruthful statements that he or she attributes to persons and bodies in order to harm them", the statement concluded.
