His Royal Highness, who was accompanied by Morocco's ambassador to Portugal Karima Benyaich, was greeted by Portuguese president Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa.

Members of royal families, heads of states and governments and several figures from around the world attended the funeral of Soares, who passed away on Saturday at the age of 92 and was laid to rest in the Prazeres cemetery.

HM King Mohammed VI sent a message of condolences and compassion to the Portuguese president wherein he offered his heartfelt condolences and sincere compassion in this painful circumstance to president Rebelo de Sousa, the deceased's family members and the friendly Portuguese people.

HM the King also paid tribute to the memory of late Soares who was one of the symbolic figures in the Portuguese political sphere and a far-sighted statesman whose action has tremendously marked his country's contemporary history.
