The two leaders welcomed the rich and diverse bilateral partnership which is considered a successful model of South-South cooperation and development diplomacy, as drawn by His Majesty King Mohammed VI.
They also hailed the quality of political and strategic relations between the two brotherly countries, which continue to grow on, building on a rich cultural and human common heritage.
According to the statement, President Macky Sall reiterated the standing and unequivocal position of Senegal on the Moroccan Sahara and on perspectives of a lasting political solution to this regional dispute.
His Majesty the King and the President of Senegal also welcomed the implementation of decisions made during the official visit of the Sovereign, in March 2013, in Senegal, and discussed means to further strengthen economic ties between Morocco and Senegal, the first destination of Moroccan foreign direct investments and Morocco’s trade and economic partner in sub-Saharan Africa.
Driven by a strong will to further deepen technical cooperation in key areas of human development, the two African heads of state also called on economic operators of both countries to continue to explore real opportunities for promising partnerships in various sectors.
Talks between the two African leaders further looked into ways of strengthening Morocco’s relations with West Africa, especially with the eight countries of the West African Economic and Monetary Union (UEMOA) in the prospect of the next trade and investment agreement, and with the 15 countries of the Economic Community of the West African States (ECOWAS), in which Morocco has an observer status, the same source said.
The two parties agreed on a number of issues including the upcoming presidential elections in Mali and the situation in the Sahel-Saharan region, says the release which also pointes that HM the King and the Senegalese president discussed other issues of common interest, particularly those related to the Islamic nation.
