The sovereign inaugurated the city's daily market (10.5 million dirhams) and the centre for craftsmen and professional activities (16 million dirhams), two developmental projects aimed at improving merchants' working conditions, settling hawkers, preserving some declining craft trades, promoting local products and strengthening the organization and structuring of the handicraft sector.
Built on a total area of 1400 square metres, the new daily market houses 101 shops. It will contribute to creating jobs, eradicating substandard constructions, beautifying the urban landscape and improving the quality and safety of food products.
As to the centre for craftsmen and professional activities, it spans on a covered area of 2,700 square metres. It aims to improve working conditions and revenues of artisans and train young people in several professions.
The new centre includes 53 shops for artisans, administrative buildings, a prayer room, a cafeteria, a nursery, and exhibition areas.
On this occasion, HM the King handed over 24 delivery tricycles, acquired as part of the National Initiative for Human Development, to fish and vegetables hawkers. The Sovereign also symbolically handed over keys and certificates to 10 beneficiaries of vocational buildings within the new centre.
The four-year Imzouren urban upgrading programme aims to fill the gap in community facilities, rehabilitate various networks (electricity, street lighting, liquid waste, drinking water), develop the economic base in the city, strengthen social services, improve traffic, beautify the urban environment and protect the commune from the risk of flooding.
