In an address during an official dinner hosted by the Senegalese head of state, Macky Sall, in honour of HM the King, the Sovereign emphasised that Moroccan-Senegalese cooperation is both intense and diversified and that among its most visible features are the farming sector, with the achievement of the Agricultural Centre of Excellence in the region of Thiès, rural electrification in northern Senegal and the artificial rain program.
HM the King said he keenly looks forward to continuing to work with the Senegalese president to muster the resources needed to achieve further sustainable development objectives and combat precariousness and social marginalization.
Pointing out that bilateral economic and trade relations are growing steadily, boosted by frequent flights between the two regional hubs - Casablanca and Dakar -, as well as by promising prospects expected from the Morocco-Senegal road link across Mauritania, HM the King said that the two countries "can now focus on maritime links to complete this network."
The Sovereign noted the increasing flow of Moroccan private investment in Senegal’s banking, finance and insurance sectors, adding that "this dynamic trend, which is boosted by a constantly improving business environment, will certainly attract further Moroccan private investment in other areas as well."
HM the King expressed delight that the two countries see eye to eye on all major international and African issues, especially with respect to the growing challenges and risks facing our common strategic space, which borders the Atlantic and the Sahel region.
"Both our countries advocate a comprehensive strategy to respond not only to the multiple security threats across the region, but also to the requirements of sustainable development. Such a strategy should be the result of the combined efforts of all the stakeholders concerned, and as such it should be a collective, coherent undertaking that addresses the broad range of political, strategic and economic issues," he said.
The Sovereign highlighted "the reputation of Senegal as a democratic nation – indeed a model on a continent still in the grip of turbulence and upheavals of a supposedly bygone era."
On South-South cooperation, HM the King recalled that the Kingdom of Morocco sets the vital interests of the continent and the cooperation with sister African nations at the forefront of its external relations and has sought to promote mutually beneficial, solidarity-based cooperation.
In this regard, he insisted that "the sister nation Senegal holds a special place in our hearts."
