HM the King gave the go-ahead for the upgrading of the Settat -Marrakech railway line (first phase), the building works of Benguerir's new station and the securing of level crossings.
These far-reaching railway projects confirm HM the King solicitude for the transportation sector, a pivotal engine for local development and the promotion of economic activities and people's well-being.
The Settat -Marrakech railway line upgrading project concerns renewing installations (railways, catenaries, lights and telecommunication equipment..), partially converting Skhours-Benguérir and Sidi Ghanem track railways to double tracks and setting up a 2 hectare-logistical platform in Sidi Ghanem.
Totaling 600 million dirhams, this project will enable slashing traveling time between Settat and Marrakech by 30 min, improving security, and linking some of the region's industrial units to the railway network.
As for Benguerir's new station project, it is in line with the program elaborated by the railway facility (ONCF) in order to modernize railways stations and ameliorate their services and is in conformity with international standards.
The 2010-2015 level crossings securing program provides for replacing 180 level crossings, including 60 belonging to the Settat – Marrakech railway line.
The program worth 1.5 billion dirhams also provides for equipping level crossings with electronic systems and organizing awareness-raising campaigns on the risks of crossing railways.
HM the King also launched the construction works of a complex for community services for an amount of 43 million dirhams. It will ensure a sustainable, coherent socio-economic development, improve working conditions of shopkeepers, and help peddlers acquire shops.
The complex will host a wholesale market for fruits and vegetables, a covered fish market, abattoirs and shops.
