Aiming at establishing the principles of collective work, cooperation, solidarity and resource sharing, the initiative reflects the High solicitude of the Sovereign for small farmers and His willingness to continue this tradition initiated by his august grandfather, the late King Mohammed V and His late father King Hassan II, may God rest their souls in peace.
The operation aims at promoting the socio-economic conditions of farmers, one of the priorities of the new crop year which also includes ensuring rural development, creating productive jobs for young people and developing sustainable agriculture.
The Sovereign has, indeed, always put agriculture at the heart of His interests by placing it in the center of the economic and social development.
The new crop year, which banks on cultivating 5.4 million hectares of cereals and legumes, will be marked in particular by the continued implementation of the national water-saving programme, improving the agricultural insurance system, promoting support provided by the agricultural development fund and protecting livestock.
HM the King visited the "Centre régional de conditionnement des semences et des engrais", run by the société nationale de commercialisation des semences (SONACOS), as well as the OCP Cereals 2012 Caravan which is due to visit the regions of Meknes-Tafilalet, Abda, Doukkala, Chaouia, Tadla, Saiss, Zaer and El Gharb, to help smallholders in those regions to be better informed of the typology of their soils and get acquainted with the best means to improve their cereal farming.
Regarding seeds, the quantity of one million quintals has for the first time been exceeded this year.
