Integral part of the 1.063 billion dirham urban development program of the city of Tetouan (2009-2012), these projects focus on the total clean-up of Oued Martil, the building of an electrical substation and the construction of a social complex in Jbel Dersa neighborhood.

   These projects will provide the conditions for sustainable development, improve the living environment of local population, meet the growing electrical energy needs, and support the socio-economic dynamics that this northern region is seeing.

    Reflecting the special interest that HM the King grants to environmental issues, the 70 million dirham project to clean up the Oued Martil complements the wastewater treatment programs of the cities of Tetouan, M 'Diq, Martil, Fnideq and Tamuda Bay, inaugurated on December 10 last year by the Sovereign.

   With a strong health impact, this project, which includes the construction of ten pumping stations, tunnels and multiple interceptors, will in particular enable to address the discomfort caused by the Oued Martil, to protect the environment, to have clean beaches, to upgrade the coastal shoreline and preserve public health.

   The building of a new electrical substation in the city is also part of the support to the urban and economic dynamics of Tetouan. With a budget of 90 million dirhams, this project meets the growing demand for electrical energy, related to population growth and development of commercial, tourist and industrial activities.

   As for the social complex, to be carried out in the Jbel Dersa neighborhood, it is part of the program on the strengthening of local facilities in Tetouan. The 9 million dirham project will have a space dedicated to local associations, a service center for young people, an apprenticeship training center and preschool classes.

   These various projects are in line with the goals of the Tetouan urban development program for 2009-2012 which aims to promote the integration of the targeted under-equipped neighborhoods (42) in the urban fabric and improve the living conditions of inhabitants, particularly through the establishment and strengthening of community-based structures.

   The Structuring program seeks to strengthen the attraction of the city, promote its place at the regional level to be in tune with the economic and social dynamics triggered by the creation of the Tangier-Mediterranean port complex, in addition to enhancing the necessary infrastructure to support major investment projects launched in the region.
