Speaking at the Investment Roundtable aimed at mobilizing funds for the implementation of Burundi's 2040-2060 Vision, Mohamed Methqal, who led a high-level Moroccan delegation to the event, reaffirmed Morocco's commitment to support Burundi, underscoring that this commitment aligns with the vision of His Majesty King Mohammed VI for a dynamic and united South-South cooperation, focused on forging balanced partnerships with African countries based on mutual respect and dedicated to improving the well-being of African populations.
Methqal also stressed that Morocco’s support for Burundi will align closely with the key priorities outlined in 2040-2060 Vision, adding that the strong and productive cooperation between the two nations will be further enhanced and optimized, ensuring that human development remains at the core of this collaboration.
Despite the 8,000 kilometer distance separating the two countries, relations between Morocco and Burundi continue to deepen and diversify over the years, bringing mutual benefits to their peoples. This enduring partnership reflects the shared determination of His Majesty King Mohammed VI and President Évariste Ndayishimiye, proving that fraternity and solidarity are not bound by geography or self-interest, he noted.
Methqal highlighted that the 342 Burundian graduates who have received scholarships to study at Moroccan universities serve as a solid and enduring human foundation for the fraternal relationship between the two nations.
Currently, he stated, around 199 Burundian scholarship students are pursuing studies in Morocco in diverse and essential fields critical to the realization of Burundi's 2040-2060 Vision, such as health, medicine, engineering, science, and vocational training.
In line with Burundi's new vision, Morocco is committed to hosting, by 2040, 1,500 additional Burundian scholarship students in Moroccan universities and 500 more in vocational training programs, Methqal announced.
Building on the successes of the 2021-2024 cooperation roadmap between Morocco and Burundi, the Kingdom will collaborate with all Burundian stakeholders—public and private—to craft and implement a new roadmap for 2025-2027, this plan will remain firmly rooted in the principles of Burundi's Vision 2040-2060, Methqal concluded.
The investment roundtable aims to share Burundian government's Vision for socio-economic development, as well as the reforms planned and underway, in order to mobilize all stakeholders and the financial resources needed to implement Vision 2040-2060.
