Speaking at the launch ceremony of the Academy, Tahraoui emphasized that the AAHS is not only a project; it embodies "a vision for the Africa we want to build: a sovereign continent that mobilizes its talents and knowledge to address its own challenges."
For him, the AAHS represents "an ambition driven by generations that reject fatalism and are committed to turning our continent’s potential into tangible reality. It is a shared responsibility for all of us - public officials, academic institutions, professionals, and citizens - to place health at the core of human development and collective resilience."
Tahraoui also congratulated the Mohammed VI Foundation for Science and Health for choosing Dakhla, in the heart of the Moroccan Sahara, as the host for this Academy, a city which serves as a bridge between Morocco and Africa and "a space where our national and continental ambitions converge."
Tahraoui also praised the Mohammed VI Foundation for Science and Health for choosing the heart of the Moroccan Sahara as the host city for the Academy, noting that Dakhla is a bridge between Morocco and Africa, and "a space where our national and continental ambitions converge."
He pointed out that this region, rich in identity and potential, exemplifies what Morocco, under the visionary leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, has always advocated: inclusive growth that leaves no territory behind.
The AAHS addresses three major imperatives: the training of tomorrow’s leaders, innovation, and the unification of efforts, he said, noting that this institution is destined to become "a center of excellence" which brings together talents, pools expertise, and strengthens South-South cooperation.
"This entity is a space where African solidarity takes concrete form, and where every partner—whether public or private, national or international—finds its place to contribute to the development of health in Africa," he added.
For his part, the Minister of Higher Education, Scientific Research, and Innovation Azzedine El Midaoui, stated that the AAHS, a significant initiative led by the Mohammed VI Foundation for Science and Health, is fully aligned with the vision of the Kingdom of Morocco, guided by His Majesty King Mohammed VI, to make the country "a catalyst for South-South cooperation and a key player in strengthening African healthcare systems."
In a speech read on his behalf by Mohamed Khalfaoui, the Secretary General of the Ministry, El Midaoui expressed that the Academy is a true bridge between the countries of the continent, a laboratory of ideas, and a platform for action and exchange, to improve public health through initiatives tailored to the specific challenges of each African country.
"Today’s launch of the AAHS is proof of our shared commitment: to place science, research, and innovation at the service of the well-being and sustainable development of our continent."
"We are convinced that the establishment of the African Academy of Health Sciences marks a decisive step forward in developing healthcare across Africa," he added.
Through this Academy, he concluded, "we voice our commitment to strengthening cooperation among African nations for equitable access to healthcare for all and for a better future for our nations."
