Speaking at a joint session of the two parliament chambers held on the occasion of French President Emmanuel Macron's speech, the upper house speaker noted that these ties are being further consolidated thanks to the sincere desire of the heads of state of both countries, their constant action and concern to strengthen the constructive partnership and relations of fraternity, friendship and multidimensional cooperation, within a framework of mutual respect and esteem.
The Moroccan official vowed his determination to pay particular attention to the parliamentary dimension in order to support efforts in this area, namely through parliamentary diplomacy based on relevant initiatives and dialogue, so as to consolidate mutual understanding and cooperation on issues of common interest.
This determination, he explained, goes hand in hand with the “radiant” background to Moroccan-French relations, in the wake of Monday's signing of the Declaration by the two Heads of State, which inaugurates a new chapter in the long shared history between the two friendly countries. This, according to him, elevates the bilateral ties to the rank of an exceptional, strengthened partnership.
"From our constitutional position, we highly welcome the content of this historic Declaration,” the Speaker of the Chamber of Councillors asserted.
The French President's visit “upholds our bilateral relations, which are rooted in history and founded on the solid foundations of dialogue, human and cultural exchanges, as well as on an economic and commercial dynamic that is both diverse and renewed.”
With regard to the Moroccan Sahara issue, Ould Errachid noted that, as the nation's representatives, “we would like to thank France for its historic stance,” which is highly praised by HM King Mohammed VI in His speech at the opening of the current legislative year.
He pointed out that this historic position, expressed by a major State that is a permanent member of the UN Security Council and an influential player on the international scene, supports the Kingdom's historical rights, asserting that it vindicates the rule of law and legality, and represents a decisive turning point in the positive evolution towards a definitive solution to this issue, in accordance with the autonomy initiative under Moroccan sovereignty as the sole basis for resolving this artificial regional conflict.
