The Kingdom's Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the AU and UNECA, Mohamed Arrouchi, maintained that Africa today faces a myriad of security challenges that jeopardize peace and stability in the continent.
The Moroccan diplomat also stressed the need to strengthen coordination between the AU and its partners to ensure an efficient response to security challenges.
Arrouchi pointed out the capacity of Peace Support Operations (PSOs) to address security challenges in Africa at this particular context, and their predictable and sustainable funding to fulfill their mandated tasks.
To enable PSOs to carry out their tasks, the Moroccan diplomat stressed the imperative need to endow them with predictable and sustainable financing, backed by the United Nations, whose Security Council has the primary responsibility for maintaining international peace and security.
This African Union PSC meeting, devoted to financing peace support operations and PSC activities, follows on from a number of important meetings dedicated to the same question, stressing the relevance and priority of this topic.
