Mustapha Baitas, the Minister Delegate for Relations with Parliament and government spokesperson, made the announcement during a press briefing in Rabat on Thursday. He revealed that the government has allocated 143 billion dirhams for these projects, with a focus on irrigation and potable water for the 2021-2027 period.
Baitas underscored the importance of these projects, particularly those involving the interconnection of hydrographic basins, as part of a broader strategy to mitigate the effects of reduced precipitation over the past three years. He highlighted the government's commitment to overcoming these challenges through intensified and rapid actions.
The minister’s comments follow a speech by HM King Mohammed VI marking the 25th anniversary of his reign. In that address, the Sovereign had emphasized the urgent need for innovative solutions to improve the country’s water situation. Baitas reaffirmed the government’s dedication to addressing this issue, stating that "the government is working intensively and quickly to achieve this objective."
