Bab Sebta Customs Seize Large Haul of Counterfeit Hookah Tobacco
Fnideq - In a coordinated effort on Thursday, customs and police officials successfully intercepted a significant smuggling attempt at the Bab Sebta crossing. The operation resulted in the seizure of 404.9 kilograms of counterfeit hookah tobacco, locally known as "Mu'assel".
The seizure occurred during a joint control operation where officials uncovered the illicit tobacco hidden within various cavities and tires of a light vehicle. The vehicle, registered in the occupied territory of Sebta, was driven by a Moroccan resident of the same area. The tobacco was meticulously concealed to avoid detection.
Both the vehicle and the counterfeit tobacco were confiscated by customs authorities. The driver has been transferred to the judicial police for further investigation. The case is under the supervision of the local prosecutor's office as the investigation into the smuggling operation continues.
