Amraoui told MAP that HM the King urges relevant authorities to hasten the completion of works in progress, to strive towards guaranteeing the efficiency of facilities by using new technologies and innovation and to promote training in the water sector.
Following successive years of drought, Morocco has embarked on a series of initiatives to diversify its water supply sources, namely by constructing new dams to maximise storage during rainy periods, improving distribution networks and strengthening desalination infrastructure.
In this respect, the researcher highlighted the importance of reusing wastewater and reinforcing drinking water supply networks in rural areas, as well as the basin interconnection programme, according to which water will be transferred from regions with a surplus (north of the Kingdom) to those with a deficit.
Periods of bad weather are cyclical, he pointed out, noting that the Kingdom will have the opportunity to better redistribute water to all regions of the country by taking advantage of any rainy years to replenish reserves and through efforts to strengthen water infrastructure.
