Participants in the event, held as part of the 2nd edition of GITEX Africa 2024, stressed the crucial need to modernize power grid infrastructure for an equitable energy transition, deeming it essential to integrate renewable energies in an efficient and sustainable manner.
Speaking at the event, Mohamed Bousseta, Managing Director of Green Energy Park, noted that the acceleration of Morocco's energy transition offered a unique opportunity to invest in new technologies and develop new business sectors.
In this regard, he noted that by creating jobs and stepping up R&D efforts, Green Energy Park aims to remain competitive on the global market and succeed in its mission in support of a “sustainable” and “equitable” energy transition in the Kingdom.
For his part, Jérôme Fournier, Corporate Vice President and Chief Innovation Officer at Nexans, emphasized the vital importance of modernizing power grids for a fair and equitable energy transition.
The current networks, which are often obsolete and inefficient, cannot meet the growing demands of renewable energies and energy consumption, he explained.
"Investing in grid infrastructure upgrades is essential to effectively integrate renewable energy sources and thereby guarantee stable, reliable electricity distribution," Fournier said, stressing the importance of increasing grid capacity to support the growing electrification of various sectors, including transport and industry.
Held under the High Patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, Gitex Africa 2024 features over 1,500 exhibitors from more than 130 countries. The event is a major crossroads for exchanges on the latest innovations in technology.
