Sanchez's visit is an opportunity to assess what has been accomplished since the High-Level Meeting held in Rabat in February 2023, during which 19 agreements and memorandums of understanding were signed in various areas, Akmir told MAP.
The university professor highlighted the remarkable development in economic exchanges between the two countries, noting that Spain has been Morocco's leading trading partner since 2012.
This visit, he said, also addressed a series of issues of common interest, such as security cooperation, particularly in the fight against terrorism, organized crime and illegal immigration, stressing that the Mediterranean basin is one of the regions where illegal migration has decreased over the last two years, thanks to the close cooperation between Morocco and Spain in this area.
Sanchez's visit to Morocco follows on from the new stage in bilateral relations, initiated by the meeting between HM the King and the President of the Spanish Government in April 2022, and the adoption, on that occasion, of the Joint Declaration between the two countries.
This new momentum is progressing satisfactorily. It is marked by strengthening cooperation, coordination and partnership in all fields, based on the principles of trust, mutual respect, ambition, good neighborliness and respect for commitments.
