Currently on a working visit to Morocco leading a large delegation, the Senegalese minister held discussions with the Moroccan side on several subjects of common interest, including the development of renewable energies, electricity sector reform, energy efficiency and rural electrification, according to a press release from the Ministry of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development.

On the sidelines of this working visit, a high-level tripartite meeting was held on the same day between Benali, Diome and the Nigerian Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Ekperikpe Ekpo, during which they discussed the progress of the strategic Nigeria-Morocco Gas Pipeline project and the ways in which cooperation and coordination between the three countries could be strengthened to move this important project forward, the same source added.

The visit by the Senegalese Minister of Petroleum and Energy is part of the ongoing consultation and coordination between Morocco and Senegal, to strengthen bilateral relations and give fresh impetus to strategic cooperation projects in the field of energy transition, the press release stresses.

In this context, Benali and Diome commended the partnership established between the Kingdom of Morocco and the Republic of Senegal, under the enlightened leadership of the two Heads of State, HM King Mohammed VI and Senegalese President Macky Sall, while expressing their willingness to strengthen political dialogue by stepping up high-level visits and to establish win-win cooperation, taking into account the similar challenges faced by the two countries in terms of energy transition and sustainable development.

Members of the Senegalese delegation also visited the Moroccan Sustainable Energy Agency (MASEN) and the National Hydrocarbons and Mining Office (ONHYM). They held working meetings with the chiefs of these two institutions to discuss opportunities for exchanging experience, building capacity and developing joint energy transition projects.
