This surge is attributed to a 7.6% rise in the index for food products and a 0.7% increase in non-food products, as explained by the HCP in a recent statement regarding the November CPI. As for non-food products, variations range from a 2.4% decrease in "Transport" to a 4.8% increase in "Restaurants and Hotels," according to the same source.
The observed decreases in food products between October and November 2023 are mainly associated with a 15.5% drop in "Fruits," 0.8% in "Oils and Fats," 0.2% in "Bread and Cereals," and 0.1% in "Sugar, Jam, Honey, Chocolate, and Confectionery."
On the other hand, prices rose by 4.6% for vegetables, 3% for fish and seafood, and 0.6% for meat. Regarding non-food products, the decline primarily affected fuel prices, decreasing by 1.1%.
The most significant decreases in the CPI were recorded in Agadir at 0.9%, Kenitra and Laayoune at 0.8%, Marrakech, Tetouan, and Errachidia at 0.7%, Meknes and Tangier at 0.6%, Casablanca at 0.4%, Guelmim at 0.3%, and Settat and Al-Hoceima at 0.2%.
Conversely, increases were noted in Safi at 0.9%, Beni-Mellal at 0.5%, and Fez and Dakhla at 0.3%.
Under these conditions, the core inflation indicator, excluding volatile price products and public tariff items, reportedly remained stagnant in November 2023 compared to October 2023, showing an overall increase of 3.6% compared to November 2022.
