64 years later, the agency stands out now at a pivotal point in its history, where its ambition is to back the major changes in the media sector through giving a new lease of life to its global momentum, and refocusing on the news agency profession.
Created on November 18, 1959 with the publishing by the late HM Mohammed V of the inaugural news story: "Information is sacred, commentary is free", MAP has accompanied the major stages of the contemporary history of the Kingdom and the Continent, through monitoring and promoting the development of the national media landscape, and standing out at the spearhead of the diversity and pluralism that make Morocco strong.
Over the years, while capitalizing on its achievements, the agency has managed to establish itself on the regional, continental and international scene, thanks to its proven experience in news processing and a new generation of seasoned journalists.
As part of the major reform large-scale projects launched under the leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, MAP has forged the image of an agency that meets the expectations of increasingly demanding customers in terms of reliability, precision and promptness.
With a staff of 300 journalists, divided between the central newsroom in Rabat and its regional and international networks, MAP is a partner of many foreign agencies, and is positioned as the leading wholesale supplier of verified information in a variety of media formats, including news stories, infographics, as well as audio and video products.
It provides national media and foreign partners with a varied news feed, available 24/7 in 5 languages (Arabic, French, English, Spanish and Amazigh).
Faced with the major challenges of combating fake news and disinformation, the perils threatening journalistic practice and the challenges of adapting to technological transformations, MAP today also aims to position itself as the leader of Moroccan media diplomacy, through upholding the values of ethics and integrity.
This 64th anniversary marks a turning point in the evolution of the agency, which is more determined than ever to mobilize all its skills in order to innovate, reinvent itself, excel and succeed, with a common and shared goal: to continue to make a name for itself with regard to news agency work.
