"Our hearts went out to you on September 8 when the earthquake struck late in the evening. Our hearts go out to the families, and we are convinced that the solidarity of the Moroccan people is unmatched," emphasized Georgieva during the launch of IMF’s recent publication "Morocco's Quest for Stronger and Inclusive Growth".

"Much has been accomplished to recover swiftly from the earthquake," acknowledged the IMF Director at the event, which was attended by the Head of Government, Aziz Akhannouch, the President of the World Bank Group, Ajay Banga, and several other Moroccan and foreign dignitaries. She added that "through this outpouring of solidarity, Morocco is imparting a profound lesson to the entire world."

In a compelling testament to the conclusive outcomes of the Moroccan authorities' efforts in addressing the earthquake's aftermath, Georgieva mentioned that earlier in the morning, accompanied by the Minister of Economy and Finance, Nadia Fettah, she had visited schools in the affected areas.

"Barely a month after the earthquake, all the children are back in school," she noted.

"Some have been relocated to schools that were unaffected, others to temporary structures, or even tents, but all have resumed classes," she stated, emphasizing that "their smiles and enthusiasm serve as the strongest confirmation of Morocco's promising future."

She then said that evidence supporting Morocco's pursuit of stronger, more inclusive growth can also be found in the book "Morocco's Quest for Stronger and Inclusive Growth". The Kingdom has embarked on extensive reforms, and the results are evident, she added, citing a dynamic economy, robust export capacity, a vibrant tourism sector, educated youth, and a commitment to diversification among the aspirations to elevate growth to new heights.

Per capita income has doubled in the short period since these reforms commenced, the IMF director highlighted.

Discussing the future prospects for the Moroccan economy, Georgieva expressed her belief that post-earthquake reconstruction will inject renewed vitality into the country's economy.

"Morocco is the voice of the African continent. A prosperous 21st century will not be possible without a prosperous Africa," she asserted.

She recommended that "the best tribute to those who lost their lives (in the earthquake) is to rebuild well and prioritize building for the children."

The IMF Managing Director concluded by emphasizing that the book "Morocco's Quest for Stronger and Inclusive Growth" is not only pertinent to the Kingdom but also relevant to any country with the ambition of achieving sustainable growth.
