"This meeting is an opportunity to highlight Morocco's commitment to African countries, thanks to the Royal vision of South-South cooperation," said Jouahri, in a statement to the press on the eve of the start of the WB and IMF Annual Meetings.
The event will also enable Bank Al Maghrib to highlight the performance of the Moroccan banking system in Africa, which has been successfully deployed over the past two decades.
"The challenges affecting Africa, notably the issue of debt, food security and climate change, will be at the center of discussions", stressed Jouahri, noting that the choice of Morocco to host this large-scale event testifies to Morocco's commitment to the African continent.
According to him, holding these Meetings in Marrakech demonstrates the trust Morocco enjoys with international institutions and financial markets, thanks to the reforms undertaken under the enlightened vision of HM King Mohammed VI.
"The holding of these meetings, just a few weeks after the earthquake that struck several Moroccan provinces, demonstrates the Kingdom's ability to rise to the challenges and its potential as host of this major international event", said the Central Bank governor, stressing that the meetings would be an opportunity to highlight "Morocco's exemplary record of structural reform and governance".
Referring to the main topics to be debated at the Meetings, Jouahri cited climate change and the digital revolution, in an uncertain international context marked by the conflict between Ukraine and Russia, as well as post-pandemic upheavals.
"Discussions will revolve around the need to rethink multilateralism and highlight global political and economic fragmentation," he noted, adding that speakers will tackle representativeness and participation in decision-making, particularly with regard to the African continent.
In addition, Jouahri noted that the Marrakech Declaration will intend to promote economic improvement, inclusive growth and innovative solutions for the future, especially for the younger generations.
