The Minister of National Education, Preschooling and Sports underscored the significant importance accorded to teachers in the recently launched "For a Quality Public School" roadmap for 2022-2026. This initiative places a strong emphasis on teacher development, both in terms of initial training and continuous education. Furthermore, it seeks to bolster individual teacher initiatives to enhance their participation in the desired transformation of the education system.
As part of this reform push, the minister highlighted the crucial role of the Pioneer Schools project, aimed at consolidating students' achievements and reducing educational disparities. This is achieved through pedagogical interventions and support activities, with enthusiastic participation from teachers in the schools volunteering for the project.
In addition to recognizing the invaluable role of teachers, Benmoussa stressed the need to motivate and improve the professional and social status of educators. He pointed out the introduction of a new personnel status for the Ministry of National Education, developed through collaboration with teaching unions, which preserves previous benefits, unifies career paths, and covers all personnel in the sector.
The revamped status also incorporates motivational provisions, including opportunities for promotions and performance-based incentives, addressing long-standing demands from the teaching community.
In an effort to elevate the teaching profession, the ministry announced the launch of an annual forum dedicated to educators. This platform will serve as both a scientific and pedagogical space, aiming not only to promote a positive teaching culture but also to make the profession more attractive. It will highlight the accomplishments of teaching professionals and showcase innovative and inspiring teaching practices.
Switching gears, Minister Benmoussa also touched upon the ministry's response to the aftermath of the September 8 earthquake, especially its impact on the education sector in affected regions. The ministry, in coordination with local authorities and other institutions, has worked tirelessly to support teachers in these regions. The Mohammed VI Foundation for the Promotion of Social Works in Education and Training has also played a significant role by providing medical care to those injured.
To ensure uninterrupted education in the most affected areas, rapid solutions were put into place, including the transfer of students to alternative institutions with parental consent and the establishment of temporary learning spaces. These measures are temporary while awaiting the reconstruction of damaged facilities, and they come with a commitment to provide students with educational, psychological, and social support in collaboration with the Mohammed VI Foundation for Environmental Protection.
