In Asni, a village near the earthquake's epicenter, the weekly souk on Saturday is bustling with activity. Locals and villagers from neighboring areas have flocked to the souk to replenish their food supplies, fulfill their weekly needs, and reconnect with family and friends.
The weekly souk remains a favored gathering place for villagers to convene, exchange information, and support one another, especially during these challenging times. In Asni, cafes and restaurants opened early in the morning to welcome residents, visitors, and merchants.
Ahmed Bouhlal, a resident of Douar Laarab, one of the areas affected by the earthquake, shared, "after the initial shock, fear, and anxiety caused by the earthquake, life is slowly returning to normal. People are starting to put the natural disaster behind them and recover from its aftermath. We would like to express our gratitude to His Majesty the King for his prompt attention to the well-being of the earthquake victims."
The weekly souk in Asni attracts a diverse crowd seeking fruits, vegetables, meat, clothing, furniture, gadgets, handicrafts, and more. Both buyers and sellers have gathered to trade goods and livestock.
The resilience witnessed in Asni, as well as in other areas and villages within the earthquake-affected zone, is the result of the unwavering and ongoing efforts of various entities. These efforts are carried out in accordance with the High Instructions of His Majesty King Mohammed VI and involve local authorities, the Royal Armed Forces, the Royal Gendarmerie, the Civil Protection, the General Directorate of National Security, the Auxiliary Forces, the Mohammed V Foundation for Solidarity, the Moroccan Red Crescent, as well as numerous others.
"Morale is gradually improving, and we are recovering from the earthquake's impact," stated Anissa El Allaoui, a resident of Asni. She expressed profound gratitude to His Majesty King Mohammed VI for the compassionate care he has shown toward the earthquake-affected population and for his High Instructions to mobilize all necessary resources to provide support and comfort to the victims.
