The suspect, who was arrested with the collaboration of the General Directorate for Territorial Surveillance (DGST), has been the subject of an international arrest warrant issued by French judicial authorities.
The 57-year-old suspect was apprehended during a security operation in Meknes after being screened against Interpol's database, as disclosed in a release by the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN).
According to the statement, the international warrant issued against the accused is related to his involvement in voluntary manslaughter committed on August 20th against a Moroccan national residing in France.
Investigations revealed the accused's involvement in a case of death threats against his wife and children living abroad. They are currently in Morocco under police protection provided by the national security services. This was before the suspect's arrest on Wednesday.
The suspect was taken into police custody for investigation by the appropriate public prosecutor's office in order to determine the details of this case and identify other criminal acts he is accused of.
This arrest is part of international security cooperation efforts made by Moroccan security services to pursue other wanted individuals in cases of transnational crime, according to the statement.
