The meeting, which comes in the wake of Mr. Agboraw's official visit to Morocco on May 4 and 5, 2023, aims to allow the African side to learn about AMSSNuR's activities as a regulatory authority for nuclear and radiological safety and security, said a statement from AMSSNuR.
This meeting, the first of its kind since the election of Agboraw as head of this African organization, provided an overview of the activities of AMSSNuR, its missions, its responsibilities and its strategic plan. It was an occasion to discuss possible opportunities for cooperation between AMSSNuR and AFCONE in the field of the peaceful use of nuclear energy.
This visit, added the statement, is of considerable importance for Morocco following the ratification of the Treaty of Pelindaba on the African Nuclear-Weapon-Free Zone on April 18, 2022, in accordance with the African vision of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, which highlights the commitment of the Kingdom, during its first participation in the 5th Conference of States Parties to this regional treaty, as a State Party to the Treaty of Pelindaba, to support this regional organization through a triangular cooperation and solidarity for the benefit of socio-economic development in the region.
During this meeting, the two parties stressed the importance of establishing a framework for cooperation between AMSSNuR, AFCONE and the Forum of Nuclear Regulators Bodies in Africa (FNRBA), and this, to make member countries of FNRBA and AFCONE benefit from the experience and expertise that Morocco has in the field of nuclear and radiological safety and security.
