The prosecutor's office in charge of terrorism and extremism cases has directly supervised the procedures of intervention and arrest of the suspects following security operations carried out in the cities of Casablanca, Beni Mellal, Mohammedia, Khenifra, Témara, Tiflet, Tangier, Ksar El Kébir, Rissani and Berkane, said a statement from BCIJ.
The searches conducted in the homes of individuals arrested have allowed the seizure of several materials and digital media that will be submitted to the necessary technical expertise, written publications containing speeches of theorists of extremist thought and leaflets authorizing suicide operations and inciting violence.
According to the preliminary data of the investigation, some of the suspects are involved in the preparation of subversive plans aimed at sensitive national facilities, as well as elements and security institutions in the context of operations of "individual terrorism", said the same source.
It further added that the suspects have adhered, effectively, to the preparation of these plans by identifying targets and conducting parallel intense research to obtain information to be used in the manufacture of explosives.
The investigations revealed that some of the suspects had established suspicious links with terrorist elements outside Morocco with a view to joining one of the branches of Daech, particularly in the Sahel and Sahara region.
The arrested persons were placed in custody for the judicial investigation conducted by the BCIJ under the supervision of the competent prosecutor's office, in order to identify their terrorist plans and projects and to elucidate their possible regional and international ramifications with terrorist organizations outside Morocco.
