Mayara, who leads a parliamentary delegation visiting the South American country, stressed, to the Moroccan news channel M24, the pioneering role played by this unique center on the American continent, noting that the efforts made by the Center "encourage additional support to this civilizational institution of the Kingdom so that it can achieve all its objectives, namely to disseminate the culture, history and civilization of Morocco to the peoples of the region."
At the end of his talks with the mayor of Coquimbo, Ali Manouchehri, the upper house speaker expressed his gratitude for Chileans' great interest in this Moroccan icon in general and by the authorities of Coquimbo in particular, stressing that this interest contributes to the consolidation of relations between the two countries.
He finally expressed the hope that a new twinning agreement will be signed between Coquimbo, a city on the Pacific Ocean, and a Moroccan coastal city, which will be added to the twinning that already unites Coquimbo to the city of Fez.
For his part, the Mayor of Coquimbo considered that the visit of the Moroccan parliamentary delegation offers an opportunity to strengthen cooperation relations between the two countries, and in particular with the city of Coquimbo, which houses the Mohammed VI Cultural Center for the Dialogue of Civilizations and which gives it the status of a multicultural Latin city and makes it an international tourist destination.
"We are proud of the presence in Coquimbo of this unique Moroccan monument in Latin America and we are equally proud of having won the bet to make cultural interaction" the best mechanism for building bridges between peoples, said Ali Manouchehri.
He stressed, on the other hand, that "the challenges we face push us forward in expanding the areas of cooperation, to include the economic, tourism, agricultural and energy sectors," expressing the desire to benefit from the experience of Morocco in the management of water resources and desalination of seawater, thanks to the milestones achieved by Morocco in this area.
For her part, the Moroccan ambassador to Chile, Kenza El Ghali, said that the Cultural Center Mohammed VI for the Dialogue of Civilizations is a platform to disseminate the Moroccan culture and values of tolerance, openness and peace promoted by HM King Mohammed VI.
El Ghali also said that cooperation between Coquimbo and Morocco is not limited to the cultural aspect, but the two sides could strengthen their cooperation in many projects, including renewable energy and water resources.
